Purpose

Whitman County Civil Service employees serve under the Whitman County Sheriff. Positions include:

  • Corrections Officer
  • Corrections Sergeant
  • Deputy Sheriff
  • Patrol Sergeant
  • Records and Information Officer

Applicant Information

All applicants are periodically tested and placed on an eligibility list for hire according to their scores. Applicants must submit a Civil Service Application to be considered for placement on the eligibility list. Civil Service applications must be signed and notarized. Deputy Sheriff applicants must pass a physical, written and oral exam. All other applicants must pass written and oral tests. Background checks are required.

Lateral Deputy

Currently employed or previously employed, fully commissioned officers with 12 consecutive months of experience ending no earlier than one year from application may apply for consideration as a Lateral Deputy. For more information see the Jobs page. A written exam is required. Passing applicants are then placed on a Lateral Deputy eligibility list.
