Community Inclusion are support services that assist people with developmental disabilities gain access to community activities in which the participant may do things they enjoy as well as experience new and interesting things where the majority of persons participating are individuals without disabilities.
Activities
Examples of such activities may, in part, include:
- Participate as a member in a club, association, or other community organizational activities.
- Participate in recreation or athletic events either as an individual or as a member of a team.
- Find places where an individual’s interest, culture, talent, and gifts can be contributed and shared with others with similar interests.
Inability to Work
While these services are typically offered to individuals who are not receiving employment services or who are unemployed, it is extremely important to understand that enrollment of participants in these services does not imply that a person is unable to work or that people who work may not need support to be involved in their community.
