Employment

Employment offers all people, with or without disabilities, access to other community citizens, a path out of poverty, and independence from service systems.

There are two broad categories of employment services offered through Whitman County and available to eligible adults with developmental disabilities.

Individual Employment (IE)

Individual Employment is the placement into a job, training at the job site of the employer and/or of the individual, and follow-along services to help maintain the individual in the job.

Group Supported Employment (GSE)

Group Supported Employment includes training in skills and provision of support to a group of eight or fewer individuals with disabilities employed to perform work tasks within a host company in the community or as part of a crew that travels site to site.

Special Note

If you are still in school, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Special Education has the responsibility for funding and delivering programs to students with disabilities from the age of three through age 21 or when the student elects to graduate from high school.

We strongly advise you and your family to consider service options available to you at time of graduation prior to the age of 21 years.
